TOILETPAPER
- Photographers
Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari began their collaboration in 2009 with a provocative editorial for W magazine’s annual Art Issue featuring Linda Evangelista. Inspired by the success of their partnership, the Italian duo founded Toiletpaper, a magazine and studio that reflects their shared passion for creating unique and unexpected imagery. Working alongside their studio’s creative director Micol Talso, Cattelan and Ferrari create striking photographs and campaigns that fuse the language of commercial image-making with surrealist, witty tableaux. Their commercial work blurs the boundaries between art and advertising. Their biannual publication, Toiletpaper, has become highly collectible, celebrated for its impeccable production value and sharp humor. Toiletpaper’s images are instantly recognizable and reinforce Cattelan’s and Ferrari’s status as leading figures in contemporary art and photography.
Cattelan is an internationally acclaimed artist known for his satirical and subversive works, which have been the subject of numerous exhibitions, including at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. Pierpaolo Ferrari gained early recognition working with clients such as Sony, Campari, Heineken, MTV, Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW.
Together, Cattelan and Ferrari have contributed their signature imagery to The New York Times Magazine, Wallpaper*, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker and Vogue, among others. Their commercial clients include MAC Cosmetics, Nike, Longchamp, Samsung and Kenzo. For both Samsung and Kenzo, the duo oversaw creative direction and photography, delivering multiple campaigns that further blurred the lines between fashion, art and advertising.
