Stephen Shore is a pioneering photographer whose profound influence on the visual arts has made him a singular figure in the history of photography. His work, spanning more than five decades, has consistently defined the medium. His use of large-format view cameras to document the American landscape, engagement with contemporary platforms like Instagram and experiments with new technologies such as drone-mounted cameras have not only captured everyday surroundings, but also critically explored how cameras shape, record and interpret our experience of the world.
Shore has generously shared his expertise and insights through numerous books and exhibitions, contributing significantly to the cultural understanding of photography. A dedicated educator, he has served for over forty years as the director of the Photography Program at Bard College, guiding and inspiring generations of photographers.
