Cass Bird
- Photographer, Director
Cass Bird’s photography and film work radiate joy and spontaneity. She captures her subjects with an authenticity that feels acutely personal. “The thing that comes naturally to me is the relationship,” Bird says. “My job is not to just take a pretty picture. I do want it to be beautiful, but my priority is that it feels engaged and like an experience.”
Bird’s distinctive approach has made her a sought-after artist by brands including Chanel, Estée Lauder, Louis Vuitton, Thom Browne, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Kith, Tiffany & Co. and Yves Saint Laurent. Her editorial work has appeared in Chaos 69, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Homme Girls, The New Yorker and Vogue.
Bird’s book, Rewilding, depicts two summers spent with a group of women in a Tennessee artists’ colony, blending nature, freedom and sisterhood into a visual exploration of femininity. She has also directed music videos for artists including Sky Ferreira, Lissy Trullie and The Raveonettes. Her photography is featured in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
