Albert Moya
- Director
Born in Catalonia, Spain, acclaimed filmmaker Albert Moya developed a passion for art and cinema at an early age. As a teenager, Moya worked as an art director on film sets; and, after assisting numerous directors in his hometown, he moved to New York in 2011 to pursue his own career as a director.
Moya’s artistic sensibilities – rooted in his love for art, design and architecture – are evident throughout his diverse body of work, which spans music videos, documentaries, fashion films and experimental cinema. Drawing inspiration from the Dogme 95 movement and visionary filmmakers such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Carlos Reygadas, Moya crafts pieces that defy the conventions of contemporary narrative cinema. His approach to beauty and style is marked by a sense of wonder and inventiveness, with visuals so rich that dialogue often becomes secondary. His films invite viewers to experience characters and story arcs that feel both surreal and deeply familiar. His work is inherently emotional.
Moya’s breakthrough came with the short film, Baton, created in collaboration with Dries Van Noten, which quickly established him as a significant talent. Since then, he has continued to produce innovative work for brands including Dior, Prada, Loewe, Alaïa, Bulgari, Jacquemus, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Rimowa.
