Aaron de Mey, the New Zealand born and New York-based makeup artist and brand consultant, is revered in the beauty industry and the fashion community for his ability to do both flawless natural makeup – making the skin look perfect without artifice – and for his daring use of rich color, vivid glitter and bold technique. His signature is the perfect marriage of polished and punk, and his collective body of work has defined undone, effortless glamour for a generation.
De Mey’s influence on beauty has been foundational. He served as Global Artistic Creative Director of Sephora (2015 – 2017), and for Lancôme (2007 – 2015), working on every aspect of the business, from product development to brand marketing. During his eight years at Lancôme his many collections – including the highly influential “Declaring Indigo” and “Pink Irreverence” – were among the most successful in the company’s history. De Mey’s distinctive vision and intuitive directionality paved the way for the makeup palette of today, inspiring the industry with fearless choices and unceasing innovation.
For over two decades de Mey has collaborated with Hedi Slimane on the latter’s entire body of work in fashion, portraiture and film. Their partnership began in 2002 with Dior Homme, extended to Saint Laurent and Celine, and continues to this day.
In his editorial and commercial work he has also collaborated with Fabien Baron, David Lynch, Sofia Coppola, Willy Vanderperre, Craig McDean, Mario Sorrenti, Mert & Marcus, Inez & Vinoodh, Glen Luchford, Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Theo Wenner, Ezra Petronio, Harmony Korine, Greta Gerwig and Anton Corbijn. His client list across campaigns and runway shows includes Calvin Klein, Celine, Chloé, Comme des Garçons, Dior, Estée Lauder, Givenchy, Isabel Marant, Prada, Revlon and Saint Laurent.
